Spencer Djamel:

Spencer

Citizenship: United States

Place of Birth: Phoenix, AZ

Known Relatives: None living

Military Experience: Achieved rank of Captain in the United States Air Force; currently holds rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the African Defense Force

History: Spencer Djamel is a former US pilot who now works for the African Defense Force. The United States has been all but destroyed by the giant monsters infesting North America and seeing his country driven into underground bunkers with no way to defeat the creatures has left Spencer mentally and emotionally defeated. Contributing to his pessimism is the loss of his legs after being swatted down by a monster in a tragic battle near Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Since moving to Africa and joining the ADF, Spencer’s outlook has changed. The opportunity to pilot one of the ADF’s giant Bots gives him power and mobility that he thought he’d never experience again. Other benefits of the program for him include the hope and sense of purpose he’s received while helping to develop the military program that he believes will one day save the world. But the brightest effect on Spencer’s outlook has been due to his relationship with his light-hearted, optimistic teammate, Akemi Ienaga. She’s rubbing off on him. And it’s just possible that he’s falling in love with her.

Height: 3’10” • Weight: 180 lbw. • Eyes: Brown • Hair: Black

Mech: Spencer drives GR-2, nicknamed the Lion Bot. Spencer’s mech has been designed for close combat fighting with the monsters and carries an array of bladed weapons.

Akemi Ienaga:

Akemi

Citizenship: Japan

Place of Birth: Osaka, Japan

Known Relatives: Keitaru Ienaga (father)

Military Experience: Achieved rank of Major in the Japan Air Self-Defense Force; currently holds rank of Major in the African Defense Force

History: Akemi Ienaga is the daughter of a famous general who is one of the heroes of the human-monster war. Her father is single-handedly responsible for keeping Southeast Asia allied and hopeful in spite of the tremendous casualties that part of the world has suffered. As a representative of Southeast Asia and heir to her father’s legacy, Akemi was a natural choice for inclusion in the ADF’s giant-robot program. In fact, she was the first pilot General Abbud Rashad recruited for the team.

Height: 5’5” • Weight: 120 lbw. • Eyes: Brown • Hair: Black

Mech: Akemi drives GR-1, also known as the Stork, though she doesn’t appreciate the nickname. As the first Bot produced, Akemi’s mech was designed primarily for ranged combat. It can withstand a great deal of damage in hand-to-hand battle, but its strength is in its long-range weaponry: machine guns, rockets, flame throwers, etc. Unfortunately, this also makes Akemi extremely reliant on the limited supply of ammunition she can carry with her.

Jake Dressen:

Dressen

Citizenship: United Kingdom

Place of Birth: Crawley, England

Known Relatives: Charles Dressen (father), Penelope Dressen (mother), and Abigail “Abbie” Dressen-Smythe (sister)

Military Experience: Achieved rank of Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force; currently holds rank of Captain in the African Defense Force

History: Jake Dressen is the ADF’s newest pilot. He’s from the United Kingdom, which has fared better than the rest of the world since the monsters started appearing. The UK still has a strong – though small – military and Dressen is the best of their pilots. He’s only been with the ADF for a few months, but his confidence and aggressiveness in battle have quickly made him a valued and liked member of the team. However, those qualities also tend to get him in trouble.

Height: 6’2” • Weight: 190 lbw. • Eyes: Green • Hair: Dirty blonde

Mech: Jake drives GR-3, which he’s taken to referring to as the SkullBot. The newest of the ADF’s mechs, the SkullBot is designed for strength and agility. It has few onboard weapons, but its flexibility in battle allows Jake to make use of objects he finds in the battlefield.

The African Defense Force:

African Defense Force

Led by General Abbud Fakhiri Rashad, the African Defense Force is Earth’s best – and probably only – chance to defeat the giant monsters that have taken over the planet. The ADF is a small, but wealthy and extremely innovative organization that operates from a hidden temple deep in the jungles of the world’s second-largest continent.

Under Rashad’s leadership, the ADF has produced three, pilot-driven mechs that have had great success in destroying the giant monsters. Previous to the ADF’s new machines, humanity had been able to achieve a total of three reported kills. Since GR-1 came online, that number has climbed to twenty-two. And the ADF’s greatest technological achievement has yet to be revealed.

Until now, the ADF has confined its operations to its own continent, though it’s steadily been building a series of refueling stations around Africa’s coastlines and borders to facilitate the mounting of operations in other parts of the world. The Kill Team – as the robots and their pilots have come to be called – is only now making its first trip away from home to Paris, where rumor has it that a large number of humans still live, fighting the monsters in their own, primitive way.
